Flash Book Sales — Fall 2020

Sunday, September 20, 2020 and Sunday, October 25, 2020 — 11 am to 3 pm
(Rain dates: 9/27 and 11/1)

Friends Flash Book Sale September 20 11 am to 3 pm

The Friends of the Belmont Public Library is hosting two outdoor FLASH Book Sales in the Library Parking Lot, selling hundreds of donated books and records/CDs to support the Library’s adult, teen and children’s programming. Entrance will be limited and face coverings required.

If you’ve enjoyed online Tai Chi or free passes to Boston-area museums then you can thank the FOBPL.  Come and support this vital and engaging civic organization by making a financial donation and become “A Friend” or shopping at one of our book sales.

We send a huge “Thank You!” to the many dedicated volunteers who are preparing now to make these events possible.  Join them and make a positive and direct impact on our Library as 50% of our annual revenue is gained from these book sales.

Book Donations

The Friends of the Belmont Public Library are accepting book donations between 9 am and 12 pm on Fridays only.

To donate, come to the back door of the library, where you will be met by a Friends volunteer. Each donor may bring up to 3 bags or boxes of books. The volunteer will receive your donations and carry them into the room where books are sorted.

Please wear a mask and remain at least 6 feet from volunteers and other donors.

The Friends of the Belmont Public Library greatly appreciates the generous donation of your gently used books. Please review the Friends donation guidelines below before donating.

Your donation of books will help fund programs for Library patrons of all ages.  A tax receipt is available at the Library reference desk on the first floor.

Book Donation Guidelines

The Friends of the Belmont Public Library greatly appreciates the generous donation of your gently used books, DVDs and CDs. Donations should be dropped off at the library’s delivery entrance.  PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE BOOKS OUTDOORS DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER. As of Friday, August 14, 2020, donations are accepted on Fridays, 9 am to 12 pm.

We ask that you consider the following before making your donation. We cannot sell books that are:

  • Dirty
  • Moldy
  • Highlighted or underlined
  • Water-stained, yellowed or brittle
  • Outdated (i.e. old computer manuals, travel books more than 10 years old)
  • Textbooks
  • Very dog-eared

We accept DVDs, and CDs that still play, but we cannot accept any other media or electronic equipment (no LPs, VHS, computers, monitors, etc.) Donated magazines may be placed on the Magazine Exchange Table next to the ground floor elevator.

We must throw away books that we cannot sell and this consumes much volunteer labor. So, before donating, please ask yourself, “Would I buy this book?”.
