Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, Vol. 4.5 by Sunsunsun
This volume is within the same time frame as volume 4, and covers short side stories from the summer break. It is not necessary for plot development but is recommended by the author.
*SPOILERS START HERE*
To point out some specific stories that stood out, as covering all would be too long, Nonoa’s short story about her “friend group” was really good to help us understand how she manipulates people and how she thinks before we formally get introduced to it later.
The hypnotizing chapter was really funny and entertaining to read with the help of Yuki, along with both Alisa and Ayano getting sucked up into the mess. It was definitely not necessary but also a great addition.
The “seven school mysteries” was also great fun to read and helped Masachica and Alisa’s relationship move forward a bit. It definitely felt like it filled in some of the time from before the trip during summer break. It also gives us some 100% necessary fan service, as the author has their priorities straight.
Finally, we have the not so subtle hint as to who is the girl from Masachica’s childhood. It also gives us the view from the childhood friend and how she feels. It is definitely explored much more in volume 5 and beyond, and this rival being who she is definitely creates some extra drama.

It is very lighthearted and full of comedy, and though it’s not necessary for the plot, it still introduces ideas and the thoughts of characters that we wouldn’t learn about until later in the series, like with Nonoa. The relationship between Masachica and Alisa is still there and we learn about the relationships of some of the other characters too.
Quick note. I would recommend reading the afterword as it is a fun read. Not necessary and definitely a waste of time, but you probably have plenty of time if you’re reading this in the first place, right?
Would recommend it to: needs, comedy enjoyers, romance enjoyers, and people who really don’t want to use their brain.
