Parking Lot Pickup at the Belmont Public Library

Welcome to the Belmont Public Library’s socially distanced hold pickup service. For your safety, this is an appointment-based service until 9/19. As of 9/21, holds pickup will move indoors with no appointment needed; find more information on in-library holds pickup here.

Current Parking Lot Pickup Hours: Monday through Friday, 10am – 12:30pm & 2pm – 4pm, and Saturday, 10am-12noon.

Before you come to the library:

  • Request your library materials as you normally would via the online catalog or the Minuteman mobile app.
    • You can request items from other libraries but they may take longer than normal to be delivered, so look for items located at Belmont Public Library.
    • Please note: Due to high demand, requests will take longer than normal to fulfill.
    • This includes items from the Library of Things collection.
  • Get a notice that your materials are ready for pickup.
  • Book an appointment.
    • After you get your “Ready for Pickup” notification, you may schedule a pickup time via the Parking Lot Pickup Calendar.
    • Pickup Hours: Monday through Friday from 10am – 12:30pm and from 2pm – 4pm. We will expand these hours in future phases.

At the library:

  • Come to the library during your scheduled pickup & park your car in a parking space in the main parking lot. Please wear a mask.
  • Come up to our tent.
  • Identify yourself.
    • If you are picking up a Library of Things item, the item might need to be retrieved from inside the library.
  • Take your bag.
    • A library employee will match you with your bag. Your name will be on the bag.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Should I wear a mask to pick up my library materials?

Yes, please wear a mask or face covering and remain at least 6 feet from staff and other patrons throughout the pickup transaction. Thank you!

  1. If I place a hold today, when will it be ready for pickup?

Due to high demand and additional processing procedures designed for safety, requests will take longer than normal to fulfill

  1. Can I request items from other libraries? Can I place Commonwealth Catalog or Interlibrary Loan requests?

You can request items from other libraries but they may take longer than normal to be delivered.

If you see an item available at another Minuteman library and that library is offering pickup service, you can place the request to pick up at that library and schedule an appointment through that library’s pickup service. (Note: other libraries may have a different procedure/booking process than Belmont’s Parking Lot Pickup.)

At this time, we are unable to fulfill any Commonwealth Catalog or ILL requests.

  1. I got my notice that my materials are ready for pickup. Can I schedule a pickup appointment for the same day?

Not at this time. Booking for pickup slots will close at 4pm on the preceding day that the library is open. For example, booking for a Wednesday appointment will close on Tuesday at 4pm. Booking for a Monday time slot will close on the preceding Friday at 4pm. We plan to expand our pickup hours in future phases. 

  1. I’m having trouble signing in to schedule an appointment. When I enter my library card information, it tells me “Something went wrong!” What should I do?

Currently, the Parking Lot Pickup Calendar accepts your library card number, but not your username. Please try entering your library card number with no spaces.

If you don’t remember your password, you can request a password reset.

  1. Do I have to schedule a pickup time every time I receive a notice that materials are ready?

No! We try to put all your holds together for your scheduled pickup time, so long as you get the email notification that your items are “ready for pickup” 24 hours in advance of your scheduled pickup time. This is because the bags are also put together about 24 hours in advance.

  1. I have library materials to return. Can I bring them back when I come for my pickup appointment?

The library’s outside book drops (next to the poolside parking lot) are open 24/7. With the exception of Library of Things items, library staff cannot take returned materials from you at the Parking Lot Pickup tent. 

You may return items from other libraries, but if it is a large quantity, we would prefer you return them to the owning library if possible.

We will be quarantining all returns for at least 72 hours before checking them in, so items will remain on your card for a few days after you returned them.

  1. I scheduled an appointment but can no longer come. Can I cancel my appointment?

Yes, on the Parking Lot Pickup Calendar, enter your library card number and password/PIN, select Manage Existing Pickup, and click Next. You can then cancel your appointment.

  1. My hold notice says that my hold will expire before my appointment time. What should I do?

Parking Lot Pickup has become popular quickly! While we are hoping to expand appointment times in the future, please email [email protected] if you are worried that your hold will expire before you can schedule a pickup appointment.

  1. Can staff place a request for me or answer my Parking Lot Pickup questions?

Yes! Call us at 617-993-2871 or send an email to [email protected]. Please tell us your name, library card number, and the item you would like to request or your Parking Lot Pickup question. (And if you call, don’t forget to leave a phone number where we can reach you!)
