What is Homework Hotline? Homework Hotline is a first-come, first-serve homework help service that will take place virtually on Mondays from 3:00-5:00PM starting September 28th.

  • Each student must bring specific homework assignments with them to complete and can leave when they finish their work.
  • Tutors from the high school in grades 10-12 will receive community service hours towards their graduation for the time they spend helping with the program.
  • Registration on the form here is required for the Zoom Link.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does tutoring over Zoom work?

At the beginning of the session, all tutors are assigned rooms within the Zoom meeting. Students who arrive first will be matched to the tutor who best suits their needs and sent into that tutor’s Breakout Room. There, they will be able to screenshare and work through their assignments with that tutor. The supervising librarian will do regular check-ins on the Breakout Rooms to make sure things are going smoothly and help resolve any tech issues.

Will my student get the same tutor every week?

Due to its first-come, first-serve system, tutors may not be able to help the same students every week, but we will do our best to match you if there is an opening.

I can’t get into the Zoom Meeting! Is there something wrong with my computer?

Because of our limited availability of tutors, some students will need to wait until a tutor is free before they can be let in to the Zoom meeting. The supervising librarian will keep all waiting room attendees informed of the number of people ahead of them. At 4:30PM, this waiting room will close and tutors will begin finishing up their sessions.

Can a parent hire a Homework Hotline tutor?

All tutoring done for Homework Hotline is free-of-charge, but is limited to Mondays from 3-5PM. If a parent would like to hire a tutor who is part of the program, they can email Hannah Lee, the YA Services Librarian, at [email protected], and ask whether that tutor offers more services.

What if I have more questions?

Our YA Services Librarian, Hannah Lee, can answer any questions you might have. You can contact them via email at [email protected] or by calling 617-993-2873.
