Kanopy is here!

Get ready to watch some of the world’s best films – for free. Belmont library cardholders now have access to any of the 30,000 films in the Kanopy collection.

If you like documentary, international, classic, or independent films, give Kanopy a try. It offers film festival favorites, hard-to-find titles, and thousands of films from the Criterion Collection, Great Courses, PBS, Women Make Movies, Samuel Goldwyn, and more. CBC News called Kanopy “a treasure trove . . . arguably the greatest assortment of international art cinema under one roof.”

Included are indie hits like Hunt For the Wilderpeople and 2 Days in Paris, classic masterpieces like Aguirre, the Wrath of God and Seven Samurai, and award-winning documentaries like the 2017 Oscar-nominated I Am Not Your Negro and Sundance Film Festival winner Mother of George.

Also available is Kanopy Kids, offering films and TV series for preschool and up that are both entertaining and educational. Categories include TV Series, Learning Languages, Animated Storybooks, Anime Favorites, Classic Films, and Movies for the Whole Family.

Each Belmont Public Library cardholder may stream up to 5 films per month. Once you press the play button on a film, you have 3 days to view it as many times as you like, without using another one of your 5 “play credits.” You get a new quota of “play credits” on the first of each month.

To access Kanopy on your computer, sign up on the library website (belmontpubliclibrary.net> services>AtoZ list>Kanopy); on your TV, use AppleTV, Chromecast, or Roku; or on a mobile device use the Kanopy app for iOS or Android.
